And, after the previous Democratic takeover of the White House, in 1976, it was a former governor, Ronald Reagan, who led the comeback and took the presidency. So history suggests that statehouses are where a lot of the GOP action will be over the next four years. And, of course, politics isn't just--or even mostly--about ideas. It's also about political leadership. To see Sarah Palin at the Republican Governors Association was to wonder at a natural politician. Among her peers she may be in a class by herself--like Reagan or Barack Obama. Can she rise to the occasion? The media remain desperate to deny that she can, and even to deny her a chance to try. Palin is a phenomenon, and her future is unpredictable.

It would appear that Bill Kristol can't extinguish the torch he has been carrying for Sarah Palin since the day John McCain was forced to accept chose her as his running mate. Mind you, I don't wish to discourage his fatuous flirtation with the Siren of Skagway. No sirree, bob. The more bashful blushing Billy keeps her up on his pedestal (you people have very dirty minds) the more the Republican pashas and nabobs will continue their in-fighting and intramural backstabbing.

And who knows, maybe Bill will take time out of his busy schedule of column writing (maybe one less when the NY Times contract comes up for renewal) and flashing his dazzling wit and smile on FauxNews and schlep up to Alaska and help school his young Galatea in the ways of political prowess and success.

I'm sure the First Dude wouldn't mind. I think he may have plenty of other diversions up there in the frozen North to keep himself occupied.
